Marilyn Mayo Montgomery

Marilynn (Mayo) Montgomery passed away peacefully at her home in Long Beach, California on July 22, 2025. Born in Seattle, Washington to Maxine and Clifford B. Mayo (deceased), her family including her younger brother Ronald A. Mayo (deceased) relocated to Southern California in the late 1940s.

She graduated from Wilson High School in 1957 and attended Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington only to return home to finish her degree in Education at Long Beach State University. She was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority and participated in many organizations throughout her lifetime including the Assistance League of Long Beach, LB Jr. Philharmonic, and the Daughters of the American Revolution.

For a brief moment early on in her career she earned her wings and became a flight attendant for United Airlines before ultimately choosing education as a career. She spent over 30 years with Long Beach Unified School District as a teacher at various schools and principal for Stevenson Elementary during the late 80s and early 90s before retiring.

Having a love for travel, she set out early in her life traveling the world and continued to share that love of travel with her family. A member of the ABYC yacht club with her husband of 51 years, they shared a love of sailing and spent many summers in Honolulu, Hawaii. She leaves behind her husband Jerry, her three nieces, two nephews and her fur babies Wilbur and Orville. A celebration of life will be held at a later date TBD.
