Jean was born in St. John’s Wood, London on October 2nd 1931, the second child of Frank and Nellie-Alice Townsend, 26 days before her sister Marian’s first birthday. She was an outgoing, talkative and inquisitive child. Her first job as a secretary allowed her to blossom, develop her friendships and independence. Jean met Ed Reeves, then working for the US Department of Defence, when he lived in the same building in London. They returned to the USA, married and Jean started her new “American” life.
Jean and Ed enjoy over 40 years together. Jean worked in Administration at California State University, Long Beach for over 25 years. After their retirement, they travelled extensively to various locations in their motorhome with their friends from the Long Beach Elks Lodge. Jean loved to play Bingo at the Elks. She truly appreciated her friendships, especially after the passing of Ed. Jean also had many friends in her neighborhood in Long Beach. She would often sit out on her porch, waving to neighbors and loved giving doggie treats to friends walking their dogs. Jean and Ed were lover of animals and donated to many animal advocacy organizations. Jean passed away peacefully on July 17, 2025. She was beloved and will be truly missed.
