James Vincent Shirley

     James Vincent Shirley was born to William and Anna Shirley in Los Angeles on June 12, 1929, the youngest of four children. He passed away on Monday, May 1, just six weeks shy of his 94th birthday. He graduated from LA High and UCLA where he was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity. Jim married his college sweetheart, Marilyn Swope, August 9 1952. Together they had three sons, Donald, Robert and Richard.

     Jim’s profession was in the construction business as VP of Shirley Bros., Inc. with his older brother Jack. They built over 150 buildings, primarily in Los Angeles and Orange Counties. Jim enjoyed over forty years of sailing with Alamitos Bay Yacht Club and Long Beach Yacht Club. He also spent 30 years golfing at Monterey Country Club in Palm Desert and at local Long Beach golf courses. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Marilyn, and sons Donald, Robert and Richard. He was a wonderful husband and father and our hearts ache for him.
