1960 — 2025

Edward Bartkus

Edward Bartkus, born on December 22, 1960, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, passed away on January 9, 2025 in Long Beach, California. He was the cherished son of Walter and Catherine Bartkus.

Edward is survived by his devoted wife of 38 years, Colleen; his daughters, Kristin and Caitlin; his son-in-law, Kenneth; and his treasured grandsons, Gavin and Beckett, who lovingly called him “Dziadzia.” He is also fondly remembered by his brother, Jim.

A dedicated advocate for workers’ rights, Edward proudly served as a union officer at IAMAW Local 1484. Earlier in life, he embodied selflessness as a volunteer firefighter and EMT. His love for music shone brightly as a former member of Philadelphia’s celebrated string bands. Beyond these passions, Edward found creative fulfillment in photography and took great pride in cheering for his beloved Philadelphia sports teams.

Edward’s warmth, humor, and zest for life touched all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of kindness and dedication will remain an enduring source of inspiration. May his memory bring comfort to those he held dear.

Ed’s celebration of life will be held at McKenzie Mortuary in Long Beach on February 1st. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to  International Medical Corps, www.internationalmedicalcorps.org/edward-bartkus.
